LavenderPlantingDay

Planting of our new Lavender field on the Carshalton / Banstead border will start on Sunday April 24, 2016 and we would love for as many of our great customers and friends to come down to give a hand or just see in action how it is done.

Be a part of the beginning of something very special at the home of Original Carshalton Lavender, restoring the historical Lavender and Peppermint that made this area famous at the start of the 20th Century.

30,000 Plants, but this is just the start

We will be planting 30,000 new plants over the weekend, but this is just a small part of the 50 acres and 200,000 plants we will be planting over the coming year.

New Visitor Shop, Visitor Centre, Education Centre and Distillery

This field is part of two new Lavender fields we are planting in the Carshalton, Wallington and Banstead area. Come down and learn about our plans for our new visitor and education centre, distillery, shop and restaurant at our other Wallington field. We will be building an on-site production facility, where you will be able to see the full production process; from growing the Lavender to the bottled Shower Gel with Label. We will host Seasonal Markets and Community Events throughout the year and  we will never charge for entry.

More than Lavender

Over the coming year we will be planting Peppermint, Sage, Basil, Rosemary and Chamomile as well as other natural ingredients that are used in our Cosmetic Products.

A view of the Lavender Field Now

Having been left for the past 5 years, the field has overgrown and require some TLC over the coming weeks before the planting. Andy has been busy getting to grips with the Tractor and our Plough, Harrow and Discs. We will be posting plenty of pictures and updates over the coming months of the progress.

Plenty of Parking and Easy Public Transport

We have plenty of parking on site, and there is additional parking opposite at Oaks Park. We are accessible by the 166 bus route or just a 20 minute walk through the countryside from Carshalton Beeches Train Station.

A note on toilets and refreshments

As we are just planting up and getting the land established we do not have any toilets or facilities yet. We will have free bottled water on site and there are toilets and a Cafe available in the park opposite our entrance just a couple of minutes walk away.

  1. Hi, I’m interested to come for the lavender planting. Is it ok if I bring my 8 year old son as well? What time should be turn up? If there is space I’ll bring another friend as well too.
    Thanks

  3. Hi,

I’m interested in this. My children are only 4 and 1. Is that ok? Is there a cost involved? And are the timings flexible as we probably wouldn’t get there till 12.

    thanks
    Sonja

    1. Hiya,

There is no cost. It is flexible all day, we just start at 10… but turn up when you can. We look forward to seeing you :o)

  5. I am a regular customer at Naturally Thinking and would love to come to this planting day but sadly cannot make it. It is poignant to me that you are only 10 minutes down the road from my grandparents/mum’s old house in Sutton, a place I have very very fond memories of. Who knew a few minutes away from where I spent so much of my childhood was a place once famed for its lavender and peppermint?!

    1. Hiya, We plan on sticking around for quite some years :o), so it would be great if you could make it down sometime in the future. The local area has had quite a revival of Lavender in recent years and we are proud to have been part of it. As locals that were born and live in Carshalton & Wallington, it is great to be part of the revival and restoring the local history. My next door neighbour who picked me up from school when I was a little boy, used to tell me about the Lavender fields that once dominated the area and why the road I lived in was called Mint Road. I think he planted a little seed in me that I wanted to make happen one day! :o) I wish he was still around to see the revival. Dan

  6. Hi,

On your website you say that you currently have 25 acres of Lavender in Wallington. Can you tell me the location?

    Debbie

    1. Hiya,

Both fields are currently under development for opening Spring 2017. Before then, apart from on Planting days we will not be opening the fields as we have a lot of planting, maintenance and construction work to do.

      Thanks, Dan

    1. Hiya,

We will have some gloves, but in case we run out, it might be handy to have some gloves if you want to keep your hands clean! :)… If it rains the day before or on the day a pair of wellies might be handy too.

      See you Sunday

      Dan

    1. Jeni,

Thank you so much for coming! It will be great to see you and catch up (though facebook keeps up in touch). Joe, our little boy should still be there at 11… so you can finally get to meet him!

See you in the morning, drive safe!

      Dan

      1. Hiya,

Excellent, I’ve got a little gift I made for him so it will be lovely to finally meet him. Yes FB does keep us all up to date which is amazing but nothing like a big hug and a proper catch up ??
