Elemi Essential Oil

Canarium luzonicum is a large evergreen tree growing to a maximum height of about 30 m (100 ft). The leaves are alternate and are pinnate.

Typically growing in the Philippines, when the tree sprouts its yellow leaves, the natural resin is emitted from the tree which dries hard on contact with the air. This oleoresin from the tree is known as Elemi. When the leaves fall, the resin stops.

Elemi oil is a relative of Frankincense and Myrrh.

Characteristics of Elemi Essential Oil

Elemi oil has a sharp balsamic-spicy, almost lemony scent. Elemi is invaluable as an incense ingredient and also for ‘fixing’ perfumes, tethering ingredients which otherwise would fade fast.

Common Uses of Elemi Essential Oil

The ability of Elemi to elongate the scent of other citrus essential oils, make it highly useful in blends. Use at a lower dose and let Elemi enhance the scent of your blend.

A rejuvenating oil that helps to drain the skin and promote general well-being. This makes Elemi essential oil well suited to anti-ageing blends and blends promoting the reduction of wrinkles and fine lines.

A rejuvenating powerhouse for your body. Elemi promotes a wonderful sense of well-being and mood enhancement. Often used to stimulate mental ability, it is clarifying and rejuvenating, bringing life and joy back. Use with other Citrus oils for truly uplifting blends.
Elemi is useful for a body that lacks energy and drive. In massage it can help stimulate blood flow and is useful for respiratory conditions.
An energising oil that brings renewed life and uplift to any environment.

Precautions when using Elemi Oil

Avoid use during pregnancy. Very sensitive skin may find it a skin irritant
