Basil Essential Oil is primarily used for clearing the mind of worries and clutter and aiding concentration.

However as well as clearing the mind, basil is typically used in the following applications.


The high linalol content in Basil essential oil is believed to help repel insects.


Basil oil has a cephalic action which means that it helps to stimulate and clear the mind. It is an excellent choice for combating nervous disorders, intellectual fatigue and indecision.
Basil essential oil is beneficial for headaches, migraines, muscle tension and pain. It has an affinity with the respiratory system and makes a warming inhalation for chesty coughs, bronchitis, asthma and sinus infections. It is a good tonic for the digestive system and may be of assistance in treating menstrual problems
Basil when blended with Lime is a classic aromatherapy scent, which is at home in candles, burners and bath oils.

Precautions when using Basil Essential Oil

Basil essential oils is usually stimulating but has a stupefying effect when used in excess.

An emmenagogue so best to avoid Basil Essential Oil in pregnancy (at naturallythinking we have a policy of avoiding all essential oils during pregnancy).

Basil can also irritate people with very sensitive skin, therefore caution should be taken with dosage levels
