British Lavender essential oil grown and distilled Organically on the Surrey Hills, Banstead
British Lavender Essential Oil
We grow our Lavender oil on the chalk faces of the Surrey Hills, Banstead. With over 50 acres under cultivation we are one of the larger growers in the UK.
All of our Lavender is grown Organically at our Banstead and Wallington Farms and we harvest at the end of July to mid August for the finest crops. Uniquely we have our own still and distill the lavender oil on site straight from cutting to ensure the highest quality yield.
You can visit our Lavender fields during the summer months, for more details please see our farms page.
Lavender Essential Oil is distilled from the leaves and flowering tops of the Lavandula angustifolia plant. A perennial, bushy shrub with silvery, grey or green linear leaves and purple, violet or blue spiky flowers.
Characteristics of British Lavender Essential Oil
Clean fresh, floral top notes with herbaceous undertones… Lavender Essential Oil remains the the most popular essential oil.
Common Uses of British Lavender Essential Oil
Most of the properties of Lavender revolve around the balancing and normalising of body functions and emotions. Lavender can be used to great effect in massage and bath oils for muscular aches and pains. Traditionally Lavender has been used to aid a good nights sleep.
Lavender Essential Oil is valuable in treating colds and flu. With the natural antiseptic properties it helps combat the cause, and the the camphorous and herbaceous undertones help relieve many of the symptoms. When used as part of inhalation, it is very beneficial.
For headaches Lavender Essential Oil can be put in a cold compress with a couple of drops rubbed into the temples… soothing and relieving.
Lavender helps relieve the itch which is associated with bites and applying neat oil to bites also helps relieve the stinging sensation. Lavender will help soothe and heal burns, but always remember for serious burns to consult a doctor, Lavender isn’t a replacement for medical treatment in the case of a severe burn.
Psychologically Lavender is soothing, balancing and calming and helps with mood swings and PMT. The calming properties of Lavender Essential Oil help induce relaxation and are therefore useful in meditation.
Lavender essential oil can be found in many high end perfume blends, when blended with care, it can produce some very sophisticated scents.
Precautions when using British Lavender Essential Oil
Due to the sleep related effects of Lavender, it should not be used when driving or operating machinery as it can make you drowsy.
Some people with low blood pressure may feel drowsy using the oil, if this is the case (and not the desired effect) cease use.
